Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 vanished from IFA, Apple is the reason

Samsung Electronics Co. lost a chance to showcase its latest tablet computer at one of the world’s largest electronics shows after Apple Inc. (AAPL) won a second injunction blocking Galaxy Tab sales in Germany. It causes the court to ban the sales and promotion of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 in the country.

A few days back Samsung had announced the Galaxy Tab 7.7 at the IFA 2011 in Germany. The devices had large stickers on them that stated that the device won’t be offered on sale in Germany. Next day, the devices suspiciously vanished from Samsung’s booth, along with every mention of the device’s name, as if it never existed (hat tip to Gerbil for sending in this info). The reason for this is now clear, as Samsung had to honor the courts decision and hence could not promote the device anymore at the show.

Samsung is currently looking at all available options, including taking legal action to defend its intellectual property rights. As of now, however, anyone looking to buy an Android tablet in Germany will have to look at the remaining manufacturer’s products. So in a way, this is not just good news for Apple, but for other Android tablet manufacturers as well.
