HTC sales and profit is higher than we expected

With a handy number of good and better android phones, HTC managed to see one of their best quarters in recent history. Mainly HTC Sensation XE, Sensation XL and the HTC Rhyme help the company to achieve emotional connection between the customers and the HTC brand. Taiwanese company HTC are easily able to meet their Q3 targets as the sales volumes and profits kept climbing. HTC shipped 13.2 million devices over the three months, bringing in $4.54 billion of revenue. Both of those numbers compare favorably to the ones achieved in the same quarter of 2010, representing a growth of 93% and 68% respectively. Naturally, the increase in sales reflected on the net income, which is $625 million, up 7% over Q2 of 2011 and 68% over Q3 of 2010.
number of htc mobile phones sold in 2011

But after all this HTC expect to ship 12-13 million devices in the final quarter of the year, which is less than what they managed to push in Q3. The revenue also expected to fall slightly. So it almost certain that the company will be able to beat those targets easily. If you would like to know the details of the report HTC released, check out the full HTC Q3 report.

Verizon rolls out Gingerbread for LG Revolution

When you have software like Ice Cream Sandwich ahead of you and it will be ridiculous for anyone to maintain relationship with Éclair or Froyo type stuffs. And LG is not trying to do that anymore with Verizon branded Revolution. They just released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for Revolution from yesterday. It is a 90MB of download and it will make your system software VS910VZ7. Check this Verizon support link for details.

Along with the normal Gingerbread stuff, LG's got a few device-specific improvements and bug fixes. If you were having trouble getting a picture over its HDMI-out, this new software addresses some problems with the port. Turning on and off different connectivity options should now function properly when using Airplane mode and a menu-related crash situation has been fixed.

You should also look for several changes to messaging and email, like gaining the ability to save texts to your LTE SIM. With email, attachments should now properly indicate their size, folders will now be in the correct order, and you'll be able to set an out-of-office status without needing to specify a time period.

Motorola Mobility Q3 report published, $32M net loss despite of $3.3B revenue

After Google acquiring the Motorola Mobility, their first financial report is out. Though Google hasn’t find any time to show anything significant but Motorola shows there are right on the track. Motorola released a few new details about the progress of the company's acquisition. It announced that it will hold a meeting with stockholders on November 17 to gain approval of the Google merger, and pending antitrust clearance by the US Department of Justice, the EU and several other government entities expects to close the transaction by the end of this year or early 2012 at the latest.

The company reported total net revenues of $3.3 billion; precisely the same amount earned last quarter, incidentally, and up 11 percent from this time last year; and a GAAP net loss of $32 million. While the number may put frowns on a few faces, it's still an improvement from Q2's loss of $56 million, and more than half ($18 million) of the losses were attributed to expenses from the Google acquisition. Mobile device revenues are up 20 percent year-over-year and 11.6 million devices were shipped, including 4.8 million smartphones and 100,000 Xoom tablets.

Verizon releases Thunderbolt Gingerbread update again with security fix

After HTC and Verizon released 2.11.605.3 for the Thunderbolt, they quickly realized that it had a couple of very serious bugs such as broken voicemail notifications and a major security vulnerability. As a result they are forced to pull it. After that it’s been a long time coming but a new version is currently making the rounds (2.11.605.5) with “improved security features that reduce device vulnerability.” The update should be rolling out to Thunderbolt users in the coming days so be on the lookout for it. Now might be a good time to manually check for a system update but I’m sure you already knew that.
download latest firmware for verizon htc thunderbolt 4g
It fixes both of those major issues we just pointed out, along with Bluetooth security and those random SMS message sessions. The update is 146MB in size and could be available in the coming days. There is no word yet on how HTC will update those that actually accepted the 2.11.605.3 update. I am very disappointed to see this kind of activities between Verizon and HTC. Where this is the time of Ice Cream Sandwich update, they are only working to give users Gingerbread! Thats shame for a powerful smartphone like Thunderbolt 4G.

Motorola DROID RAZR will be the 1st phone having unlocked bootloader

Motorola's Enterprise Mobile Devices GM Christy Wyatt stated this weekend that the international version, just called the RAZR, would be Motorola's first phone since the crackdowns to have the option of unlocking the bootloader. It was up to the carriers, Wyatt said, and Verizon had chosen to disable the feature. She told this great news to Ausdroid.

She expected that most of the bootloader unlocking would come after Android 4.0 ICS upgrades. Carriers too have the option of deciding whether or not to upgrade the OS, although the phone's release just before Android 4.0 is makes it probable that most carriers will at least roll out the patch.

Motorola is also working to have a list of the models that will be unlocked displayed on their motodev.com website. The Motorola RAZR which will be announced later this month in Australia is now the first phone to include the fully implemented lock/unlock bootloader software in it. Same treatment goes for the international version too.

Verizon hasn't explained why it has taken away the option to unlock the bootloader, although it's likely to prevent malware attacks that might modify low-level code.

Motorola droids surely receive Android ICS- 6 week’s final version release

While Motorola mobile section in under Google hood now, so everyone are sure that Motorola droids will receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS ahead of any other competitors. And before other manufacturers’ final thought Motorola announce their Android ICS movement surely. Motorola uses Twitter for the news.
when will motorola release android ice cream sandwich update?
As the tweet say they will release "devices for ICS" but since it's an answer about upcoming updates, we guess it's just a typo and what they really meant was "ICS for devices". Motorola clarifies later in its Twitter account that the devices in question are the Droid RAZR, Droid Bionic and the Xoom tablet.

And since Google widely expected to release the source code shortly after the Galaxy Nexus goes on sale, we can look at January 2012 as the likely time of the update.

No. of tablet shipments surpassed netbook so easily in Q2 2011

Q2 2011 marks the first time in the history netbook numbers have been eclipsed by tablets, according to ABI Research. 13.6 million tablets were shipped in the quarter, besting the 7.3 million the diminutive laptops were able to clock in. When compared to the prior quarter, that works out to 112 percent or 7.2 million increase for the former, and a 1.1 million decline for the latter.

Media Tablets Eclipse Netbook Sales for the First Time in 2Q11

NEW YORK – October 20, 2011
Media tablet shipments surpassed netbook shipments this quarter, reaching 13.6 million units, compared to just 7.3 million netbooks. Netbooks had previously led the way with 8.4 million shipments in 1Q11, compared to just 6.4 million media tablets.

“This is a trend that we do not expect will reverse,” says Jeff Orr, group director, mobile devices. “As they are different segments, this is not a direct replacement behavior, but a changing of leadership for the most interesting device type.”

Driving media tablet interest is Apple’s iPad 2. 68% of the media tablet shipments in 2Q11 consisted of Apple iPad models. Consumers are choosing tablets over netbooks for a number of reasons. “Media tablets are perceived to be easy to use, compared to the keyboard and mouse interface of a netbook computer. Those who have avoided PCs because they are difficult to use – think the Baby Boomer generation and older – see media tablets as an opportunity to re-engage with Internet access. Cost, however, is certainly not a reason driving tablet interest, as the average media tablet costs approximately $600 and the average netbook is only about half of that,” says Orr.

While 32 million netbooks and 60 million media tablets are expected to ship worldwide in 2011, netbooks still hold interest in underserved countries, where PC penetration to the home, along with broadband services, are not widely available. Media tablet shipments will primarily cater to the early-adopter consumer audiences of Western Europe, the US, Japan, and South Korea.

ABI Research’s new market data, “Tablets, Netbooks, and Mobile CE Market Data,” provides forecasts for all ultra-mobile devices (UMDs), including netbooks, media tablets, UMPCs, mobile Internet devices (MIDs) and six types of mobile broadband-enabled consumer electronics (CE) devices.

It is part of the Tablets, Netbooks & Mobile CE Research Service.

The Kindle Fire is a tablet with a 7-inch screen, runs a heavily modified version of Google's Android operating system, includes 8GB of internal memory. It has dual-core processor with 512MB RAM. With it, you can read e-books using Amazon's popular Kindle software, download Android apps and games using Amazon's Appstore, purchase music using Amazon's MP3 store, and stream video using Amazon's video on-demand service. The common thread here is that Amazon's suite of digital stores and services are all loaded and ready to go out of the box.

Of course, many basic features are covered, as well. You can browse the Web (more on that below), e-mail your friends, read PDFs, and listen to locally stored music, without any trouble.drawbacks of amazon kindle fire tablet
