Apps for Walking Around or for Jogging

For some people, they simply can’t resist walking around and exploring their neighborhoods. For others, Jogging is their way of keeping fit. Regardless, in today’s world of mobile devices, much attention has been given to what your mobile devices need in terms of accessories to go hands free or not be jostled out of your bag, belt or whatever it is you strap your mobile device to when you’re on the go.

But what about the apps? Here are some ideas for apps that can help round out your day when you’re hoofing or jogging around.

Audio
When you’re walking around, it’s actually just like driving – you should keep your hands free. This allows you to react better to your environment. Because of this, the best idea for entertainment is one that is based on audio entertainment, and that’s where audio entertainments apps come in:

1) Media Players
If you’re not satisfied with our own mobile device’s default media player for music, then your best bet is to download an App that is more to your liking. This is particularly important when you’re jogging, to get into the zone, or if you’re going to walk a long way, as entertainment if you do not have a companion with you.

2) Online Radio Apps
If you don’t want to create playlists, then an online radio station app is best – or, if you’re the type who likes to listen to news or talk shows, then this is a viable app for you. Signal, however, can still be interrupted or get choppy, depending on where you are.

3) Audio Books
This is another option =- you can catch up on your reading, so to speak, with audio books. While it’s not a good idea to use this to catch up on reports, if you’ve been wanting to finish your favorite book series but don’t have the time to just sit down and read, then this is a good multitasking option.

Jogging Meters or Pedometers
For those who are fitness freaks, or those who simply want to know, it’s important to have a pedometer (for walking) or a jogging meter app. If the app is health-oriented, you can find out how many calories you burned, and even set up your records from past runs or walks so you’ll know what time or calorie loss you have to beat. This is a just make sure that your mobile device has the proper sensors to used these apps, and that they are calibrated correctly. No cheating!

Communication Apps
Given the nature of jogging or extended walks, you may end up being out of touch in terms of communication and social media. In this case, audio is again the better choice. Your mobile device should have a communication suite. If you’re using a tablet mobile phone, then you’ve no problem, though a VoIP service linked to an app might be a good idea, so you can route your home phone or your office line to your mobile phone through PBX-style services, through either landline or VoIP.

GPS Locator Apps
GPS apps can serve you in many ways. For one, you should have a map app for the local neighborhood or area, so you know where you are. Give the app bonus points if it has information on local shops and food places (though if you’re a jogger, this might be a bit of a cheat, if you know what we mean). You can also use the GPS app to plan your route, or to consider where you want to go, if you exploring the neighborhood. These apps are perfect for knowing what is literally around you when you’re out on foot or jogging.
