1st Linux-based MeeGo OS Running Nokia N9 is announced

Another new competitor in mobile market is out now. Nokia announced new Linux-based MeeGo operating system at Singapore in Nokia Communications 2011. There new exclusive smartphone, Nokia N9 will be coming with MeeGo. It is jointly developed by Intel and Nokia. MeeGo uses a brand new interface design that uses a lot of swipe based gestures. All the navigation in the UI is done using swipe based gestures. You can just swipe from different sides of the screen to move back and forth between applications or bring forth the list of open applications. N9 has no key on the front side of the phone. Nokia also uses microSIM card like Apple in N9.

The N9 comes with a new web browser that is based on the Webkit 2 technology and has full support for HTML5. However, it seems there is no Adobe Flash support for MeeGo now. But I hope it will be solved soon.

Another new addition of the N9 is it supports Dolby Headphone and Dolby Digital Plus. It is the first time a mobile phone has anything like that. So N9 targets music lovers too.

Nokia N9 has a 3.9-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 854 x 480. On the back is an 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. It can record videos in HD with stereo sound. It has 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU, PowerVR SGX530 GPU, TI OMAP 3630 chipset and 1GB of RAM. N9 also has a built-in NFC chip.

Nokia don’t say anything about N9 price or release date. It will be available in three colors- black, pink and blue and in two versions, 16GB and 64GB.
