By the passing of each day, smartphone becomes more and more powerful than before. All of this achievements is possible due to the advancements of processing and power saving technologies. However smartphones have become thinner and lighter too. So what’s behind this? What makes everything possible? Well, I am telling all the secrets in a few sentences for your easy understanding.

If I am thinking about a computer it has a CPU, RAM, Hard disk, Motherboard, Graphics Card, Sound card etc on board to perform. Similarly a smartphone has all of these components. But to save energy and space, manufacturers combine some of this elements into one piece. If you listen the news carefully then every smartphone feature list has a common thing – a chipset with some model number. So what is it?

When manufacturers are talking about the processors inside a smartphone they are usually actually referring to the system-on-a-chip: a combination chipset that features things such as the actual processor cores, the graphics chipset, the RAM and possibly ROM as well, interface controllers for things such as USB and wireless tech, voltage regulators and more. It means without camera and storage all the other major things are built inside your smartphone’s chipset. The main purpose of a system-on-a-chip, or SoC, is that it can save a large amount of space which is very critical for current phones. Not only it reduces space, it also reduces the power consumption of any devices by a large scale. It also help reduce costs for assembling the product and can also be cheaper than an equivalent multi-chip set-up.
